A Travellerspoint blog

November 6, 2010

We are following Highway One along the coast heading home. We stopped at several vista points to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. We did go in to the town of Morrow Bay just to see Morrow Rock which is a dome-shaped volcanic peak that rises some 578 feet. It has beaches on both sides of it and you can actually drive right out to the base of it. Lots of surfers. We are definitely in California. We made it all the way to Hearst Castle and managed to get tickets for one of the tours the next morning. We camped overnight at Hearst San Simeon State Park which is the closest camp ground to the Castle itself. The Castle sits on top of a hill overlooking the ocean and is surrounded by a huge cattle ranch. Would you believe they had Zebra out crazing with the cows. A pretty funny site to see. Zebra meat must be a delicacy.
